The pen is a precious commodity in any office and it is no different in mine. People become really possessive about them, putting labels or decorating them in a way that signals these are mine and mine alone. If someone were to take a pen, it can cause an uproar and contention in the workplace in a way that a regular argument never could. I just find it amusing because most of the written word is on computers now but there aren’t nearly as many altercations over them as pens. Am I the only one that notices these things? Also there never seems to be enough pens. It’s like they are rationed off at some point (and I never make it to that meeting) and then it is every man for themselves. Maybe that’s why people are so possessive though-this may be the last pen they get for the whole year.
