Musical Feels – The Single Woman’s Blogging Challenge Day 26

Name a song that makes you cry every time you hear it and why

I have a lot of emotions. Emotions that like to come out in the form of song….and tears. I know you may not believe me but I cry often to music so I’m going to disqualify all worship songs from this list of the Top 3 Songs that give me the FEELS.

3. Lesson Learned by Alicia Keys ft. John Mayer

This song came right on time for my last and toughest break up. I referenced it here as the guy I pretty much tried to make into my dream guy. Once that relationship was over I sunk into a funk of ice cream and sappy songs. The lyrics “My soul has returned so I can it a lesson learned” just spoke to me so much. I knew while in that relationship I was falling away from Christ and even underneath the disappointment I felt like the end of this relationship was the best thing for me. It was truly a lesson learned.

2. Twilight by Vanessa Carlton

I was in college when this album came out and this song just wrecks me. I encourage all dreamers to read these lyrics but what really touches me is that it is just so haunting. Some of the lyrics are “I will always reach too high ’cause I’ve seen twilight” and it made me feel okay with having ideas that aren’t always accepted. This song was part of what helped me change from a biology major to an English major in school.

1. Go the Distance from Disney’s “Hercules” soundtrack

I cannot even explain how much I love Disney. Their movies and soundtracks have shaped so many parts of me. Hercules is slept on but is really one of the most motivational movies Disney has ever made and this song (not the Michael Bolton version) has been a go to of mine since the movie was released. It is the song that goes through my head when I doubt my writing, when I wonder if I can stay saved while single, and when I need to get out of bed in the morning.

I now need a moment to get myself together after these songs. (Goes into a corner to cry)
