Relief

When giants rule the land

And behind closed doors things slam and go bump in the night

A young girl’s dreams give rest from reality

Two lives under one roof

No peace, Torn piece of mind

Bodies against the wall, punishment for sound and youth

Dysfunction and confusion

How do I love? Why do I love?

Relief at broken homes

Ignore the sideways stares and condemning words

They don’t know

They don’t want to know

Bruises don’t show on brown skin

Hearts are easily hidden

Masks drawn on and secured with whispers behind turned backs and sly attempts at information

A young girl awakens with strength not there before

Giants still stand

But no longer rule the land
